The sculpture shows a proudly standing, winged figure of a woman. The artist subtly outlined its curves, piercing through the delicate robe. The woman is holding a great palm of victory with both hands.

The verticalism of the sculpture was emphasized not only by its slender silhouette and long, narrow wings, but also by the rare positioning of hands in full-figure representations.

This sculpture is a smaller version of the monument on the Place du Maré chal Leclerc in Gé rardmer. The aforementioned monument commemorates the armed conflicts of the twentieth century in which the inhabitants of the city took part, incl. in Marne, Somme, Verdun and the Vosges.

Armand Martial (1884- 1960) - French sculptor, student of Jules Coutan. Awarded many times, incl. during the Grand Prix de Rome in 1913 and at the International Exhibition of Decorative Arts and Design in 1925.
