THE BUST OF A WOMAN IN CHEPC, G. van Vaerenbergh, Belgium, 19th / 20th century

The bust of a young thoughtful woman with a wide headdress.

The girl was presented in a coat with a high collar, under which a cascade of jabot comes out.

Head slightly tilted, subtly reminiscent of listening. The facial features were drawn extremely delicately. The whole thing is completed by the great precision of the chisel.

Gustav van Vaerenbergh (1873 - 1927) - a Brussels sculptor, known mainly for female busts in the early Belgian secession. He made his works in a variety of materials, such as plaster, terracotta, alabaster and marble.

Most of his work was created in Schaerbeek, in the Carli & Frères workshop, with up to twenty employees in its prime. In the above-mentioned studio, many women's breasts were made on the basis of models made by him from baked plaster or terracotta. They were almost always signed with his name.
