A MYTHOLOGIZING LAMP BASE, bronze, 19th century
A base for a lamp with a mythological frame/ span>
It depicts three satyrs standing with their backs around a centralizing shaft. Its pear-shaped nodus most likely represents a chimera with the wings of a Bellerophon horse.
The figures shown intertwined their arms. They are led by the bearded god Pan, holding a syringa in his hand, referring to his adventure with the nymph Syrinks.
