MONSTRANCE, AM Favier, Lyon, before 1860

A magnificent monstrance with a radiant glory topped with a cross. In its center there is a glass melchizedech in a symmetrical clamp frame.

The twisted shaft was enriched with the figure of the Mother of God, placed in an openwork niche. It is preceded by a bulky nodus, decorated with winged heads.

The whole was erected on a wide foot with figural decorations of almost full-plastic angels.

André Michel Favier - the Favier brothers' studio founded in 1824 specialized in liturgical paraments. In silver she made cyboria, chalices, monstrances, as well as ampoules and patens. Many of her works are in the cathedral treasuries of France, in particular in the department of Ariège. In their works, the Favier brothers were inspired by biblical symbolism and medieval sources.
