The lion cubs hide under their mother's body to eat. The lioness is trying to scare off a possible opponent, the artist showed with an open mouth, while roaring. The creator of the sculpture used one material, but worked on it in various ways. The body of the lioness is smoothly polished, which emphasizes her anatomy, while the stone below is matted to suggest a base.
