WARRIOR ON HORSE, Thailand, late 18th century

The sculpture shows one of the royal guards or Lokapala - the guardian of the world's directions on a saddled horse. A warrior with a bushy mustache, dressed in armor displays his majesty and function.The sculpture is from Thailand, but it is Chinese-style - it was probably made by a Chinese sculptor in Siam at the end of the 18th century. Sandstone sculpture. Dimensions: 79 cm x 61 cm x 27 cm.

Sculptures of this type can be found in some temples in Bangkok, such as Vat Mahadhara, and most of all in the National Museum of Thailand in Bangkok.

The presented sculpture was purchased in 1989 at the "Lee Sons Gallery" on rue de Lille in Paris.

Preservation condition: the sculpture has a few cavities.
