WARRIOR ON HORSE, Thailand, late 18th century
The sculpture shows one of the royal guards or Lokapala - the guardian of the world's directions on a saddled horse. A warrior with a bushy mustache, dressed in armor displays his majesty and function.The sculpture is from Thailand, but it is Chinese-style - it was probably made by a Chinese sculptor in Siam at the end of the 18th century.
