The young fisherman looks at the viewer sideways. A smile spreads across his face, emphasizing his cheekbones. The man's temples are framed by shaggy hair emerging from under the thrown cap.

The whole thing is characterized by an extremely soft modeling. It is the male counterpart to the female bust of La Rieuse Napolitain.

Jean Baptiste Carpeaux (1827-1875) - French painter and sculptor. A student of Francois Rude and Francisque Duret at the É cole des Beaux Arts in Paris. He worked both in Rome and in Paris. He debuted at the Salon of the National Society of Fine Arts in 1863. His works gained recognition, and he himself became a drawing teacher of Louis Napoleon Bonaparte. His works can be found in many prestigious institutions, such as the Orsay Museum and the Opera Garnier in Paris.
