STUDENT, Emile Picault, France, 19th / 20th century

"Escholier" - figure of the title student, studying at one of the French academies.

The young man, dressed in accordance with the then prevailing fashion, was presented with a sword extended to his belt. He holds a book in his right hand, and a link on a small lantern in his left hand.

His bold posture and grimace testify to his innate self-confidence.

É mile Picault (1833 - 1915) - French sculptor, student of Henry Royer. He created in an allegorical and patriotic spirit. Many times he used figures of French warriors or mythological heroes. He was often inspired by the Middle Ages, presenting the then inhabitants and musicians. In 1883 he was awarded a distinction at the Paris Salon.
