THE WINNING GALA, H. Kossowski, 19th / 20th century

Full-figure depiction of Gala defeating the Roman legions.

The man was shown wearing a helmet with a leather band around his hips. He is holding an oval shield in his left hand, and a sword in his right hand, lifting it upwards.

He triumphantly tramples on the symbolic attributes of defeated warriors. From under his feet are a helmet, a shield and a Roman insignia of an eagle seated on a pole.

Henryk Kossowski (1855-1921) - Polish sculptor, graduate of the Krakow School of Fine Arts. He exhibited his works in Paris, Vienna, Krakow and Warsaw. He specialized in full-figure figural sculpture. He made his works in bronze, as well as in patinated plaster or terracotta.
