MARIANNE, patinated bronze, France, 19th century

Marianne - the national symbol of the French Republic, personifies freedom and equality. She was shown wearing a Phrygian cap. The rolled-up sleeves of the bourgeois dress are to show that she is ready to fight.

In his left hand he holds a musket, in his right one a laurel wreath with a date written on a sheet of paper. The year 1830 unequivocally refers to the French July Revolution.
