NIMPHA AMONG SATIRES, A. Gori, France, 1920s-1930s. Twentieth century

A sculptural representation of a nymph accompanied by tiny satyrs. The young woman was shown naked with her hair tied back.

Sitting on uneven ground, he embraces the satire playing the flute. The second of the mischievous idols grabbed her arm, wanting to drag her to play together.

The whole thing evokes a carefree joy referring to the mythical joys of the ancient Greeks.

Affortunato Gori - Italian sculptor, also known under the pseudonym Fortunato. He studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence, under the supervision of Augusto Rivalta. After leaving for Paris, he became a student of Victorien Antoine Bastet. In the years 1904-1923 he exhibited his works at the French Salons. He specialized in bronze, marble and chryselefanthine sculptures. He created both in the spirit of Art Nouveau and Art Deco.
