Paul NICOLAS (1875-1952), studied architecture and painting at the École de Beaux-Arts de Nancy. A student of Emile Gallé, with whom he worked from 1893, when Emile discovered a great talent in a young boy. After the death of his master in 1904, Paul Nicolas became the chief decorator at the Étabillisements Gallé, where he worked until 1919, when he founded his own factory, and signed his products with "D'Argental" and later also with "P. Nicolas ".
