A dynamic figure of Mephistopheles, one of the main characters in Johann Wolfgang Goethe's drama. The figure is shown playing the mandolin and singing a serenade, and its dancing movements are emphasized by a floating robe.

Auguste de Wever (1836-1910), Belgium - author of many variations on the figure of Mephistopheles, probably created after watching an opera based on a work by Goethe.
