BAROQUE PASSION IN A FRAME, bronze, 17th / 18th century
A baroque crucifix in an original ornamental frame.
The body of Christ, nailed to the cross, writhes in convulsive suffering. The expression on his face - twisted lips and furrowed eyebrows - reflects the immensity of the ongoing torment.
The subtlety of the performance of the passion is juxtaposed with an ornamental frame. It is formed into a vibrating strip of decorative acanthus leaves topped with a bunch of collected flowers.
