Sculpture of a woman (geisha?) playing a shamisen, a three-stringed Japanese instrument. This instrument appeared in Japan around 1560 and was used in Kabuki dance music and Bunraku theater. The sculpture is made in a realistic style, characteristic of Japanese art of the Meiji period, when artists depicting typically Japanese themes were inspired by the achievements of European art. Extraordinary mysteries and precision of representation.
Genryusai Seiya - Japanese artist known for many works in bronze depicting people and animals. He belonged to the Tokyo School, which was characterized by striving for strong realism and subtle expression, and drawing on the achievements of classical European art.
