In his right hand he holds a forged object, while his left hand rests on a heavy hammer with an anvil. From under his furrowed brows emerges an inquisitive look, coolly assessing the progress of the ordered work

Signature: Marioton Sc.

Claudius Marioton (1844-1919) - French sculptor from an artistic family. He studied at the École des Baux-Arts in Paris under the watchful eye of Augustin Dumont. From 1879 he exhibited his works in salons, enjoying general recognition. He received numerous distinctions and medals of the 2nd and 3rd class. During the Universal Exhibition in 1889 he won two gold medals and one silver. He held the position of a member of the supervisory committee at the École Boulle.
