The patinated bronze sculpture shows a proud miner leaning on his pickaxe. He is dressed in work trousers and has a characteristic cap on his head. The artist used two colors of patina to highlight the miner's body and clothing separately.

Very good condition, slight abrasions.

Adrien - Etienne GAUDEZ (1845 - 1902) - was born in 1845 in Lyon, studied under Francois Jouffroy at the Paris École des Beaux-Arts. He made his debut at the Salon in 1864. He mainly made sculptures in bronze, in the style of academicism and realism. In 1870 he took part in the Prussian-French war, was a prisoner of war. After the war he returned to artistic work and made, among others, a monument to the prisoners of war in Magdeburg. He died in 1902 in Neuilly-sur-Seine.
