A full-figure representation of a city guard.Mr.He complemented his simple outfit with a wide purse and an elongated sword.

In his right hand he holds a small lantern illuminating the winding streets of the medieval city. Lnwith his hand he sets a mighty bell in motion, calling passers-by to the titular silence of the night.

The static position of the characters is made more dynamic by the guard's slight step.

Description

Eugène Marioton (1857-1933) - French sculptor, educated by Auguste Dumont at the École des Beaux Arts in Paris. He regularly exhibited his works at the French Salons, receiving, among others, first place from the Societe Libre des Baux Arts in 18883. He specialized in full-body sculpture inspired by mythological and historical literature.
