
+Saint Thérèse of Lisieux, Joe Descomps (1869-1950), bronze, France, Art Deco, 1920s/30s.
A statue of Saint Therese of the Child Jesus and the Holy Face, known as Saint Therese of Lisieux. It is made of bronze and bone (chryselephantine). The saint, who lived from 1873 to 1897, belonged to the Order of Discalced Carmelites. Teresa was beatified in 1923 and canonized two years later. The sculpture presents one of the most common images of the saint. St. Teresa is shown in a habit, with her hand supporting a crucifix and her attribute - a bunch of roses. In her other hand, she also holds a rose flower as if to scatter its petals on the ground.

Clermont-Ferrand - 1950 Paris): French sculptor and goldsmith, was a pupil of Louis-Auguste Hiolin and Alexandre Falguière. A member of the “Sociétaire des artistes français” since 1883, he exhibited at the Salon des artistes français from 1891 to 1937; he received an honorable mention in 1898, and medals in 1921, 1925 and 1928.
