Description
The icon depicts four figures: the Mother of God, the Infant Jesus, the Archangels Michael and Gabriel. Mary holds her Son in her arms, who holds his hands in the Mother's. The way Jesus is presented clearly emphasizes his childhood age, as well as his human nature, which is emphasized by the sandal slipping off his foot. The Child does not look at the Mother, but turns his head in the opposite direction and seems to look at one of the Archangels. The arma Christi held by God's messengers announce the inevitable death of Jesus.
The form of the icon differs from the original. The images show the influence of Western European art that was in force at the time of the icon's creation.
