Screen / fireplace screen made of varnished, painted wood, inlaid with bone and mother-of-pearl in the Shibayama technique. It is a sculptural art in which the artist combines different materials. Materials are used preciously as inlays or appliqués on the carved surface of the wood.

Description

Japan, Meiji era (1868-1912). Signature visible in photos.The Shibayama technique was initiated in the years 1772-1781 by Onoki Senzo, whose hometown - Shibayama became the name for the technique invented by the Japanese artist.

Height 128 cm, length 102 cm, width 27 cm.
