
MONSTRANCE, AM Favier, Lyon, before 1860
A magnificent monstrance with a radiant glory topped with a cross. In its center is a glass melchizedek in a symmetrical pincer frame.
The twisted shaft is enriched with the figure of the Mother of God, placed in an openwork niche. She is preceded by a bulging nodus, decorated with winged heads.
The whole was erected on a wide base with figurative decoration of almost full-bodied angels.

André Michel Favier - the Favier brothers' workshop founded in 1824 specialized in liturgical paraments. They made silver ciboria, chalices, monstrances, as well as cruets and patens. Many of their works are in the cathedral treasuries of France, especially in the Ariège department. In their works, the Favier brothers were inspired by biblical symbolism and medieval sources.
