Description
Amphora, Austria, Turn-Teplitz, ca. 1900. Signed "Amphora", "Austria", crown and the number "2260"? Amphora - a company founded in Turn-Teplitz (today Czech Republic) around 1892. At first it was called (RSt&K), after the founders of the company: Riessner, Stellmacher and Kessel. Together with many other ceramic and porcelain factories in Turn-Teplitz at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, it used the resources of nearby kaolin. The main decorators of this period were Eduard Stellmacher, Paul Dachsel and graduates of the Special Glass Ceramics in Teplitz, creating many of the wonderful Art Nouveau designs for which this ceramic is known to this day. The products were diverse, from vases with women's faces in the style of Alfons Mucha, vases with nymphs, products with images of animals, to abstract, more modern organic decorations.
