Léon Pilet (1840-1916) - French sculptor creating in the spirit of academism. He reached for antique, historical, and less often pastoral representations. Known for full-figure figures constituting an autonomous whole. His works can also be found as finials of mantel clocks or as bases of impressive candelabra. He specialized in sculptures made in bronze.

Condition of preservation: good.

A meticulously cast bas-relief depicting a painting by Alphonse de Neuville entitled "The Spy" from 1880. It shows an episode from the Franco-Prussian War, presenting the capture of a soldier. The man, trying to get through the German forces surrounding the city of Metz, was brought before Prussian officers. The whole thing was emphasized by a simple frame.
