Description
A vase made of layered glass using the etching technique. The subject of the composition is the vine, one of the most popular plants in France, from whose flora the artist drew inspiration. The vine branches are somewhat reminiscent of Japanese stylized floral ornaments. Gallé did not hide the fact that he drew inspiration from the art of the cherry blossom country; on the contrary, he signed some of his works with the note "alla Japonica".
Émile Gallé's manufactory was famous for its top-quality furniture and glassware. Gallé loved walking in the wild forests, and had his own small botanical garden, and above the door of his studio he hung signs reading: "Our roots are deep in the forest - on the banks of streams and among the moss."
