CUTLERY IN A BOX, Alfenide, plated, France, circa 1900
A basic set of dinner and snack cutlery, enriched with a soup ladle and a cake spatula.
Smooth ladles were set on handles that widened towards the bottom. Their fluid line of edges was filled with winding, vertical foliage. The handles received decorative monograms of the previous owner.
The whole thing was enclosed in a wooden, padded box.

Alfenide Paris - the L'Alfénide manufactory owned by Christofle since 1888. Despite being taken over by a larger rival, the factory was able to continue trading under its own brand.She collaborated with the French goldsmith Félix Chéron, whose "G"allia" became the trade name of an alloy of copper and tin patented in 1896. The factory's products are known forproduction of small, highly decorative objects, created by outstanding designers.anIn 1933, Gallia completely lost its autonomy in Christofle.
